Get to Know RAGGA NYC, a Vital Platform for Queer Caribbean Artists

Programming Archive

JAN 14, 2018
RAGGA : NEST 02

BOOM collaborated with RAGGA to host an evening of works by Martine Gutierrez, Devonn Francis, Christopher Udemezue at Mood Ring. RAGGA NYC is a hybrid of ideas that began as late night conversations over familial island roots, current social politics, empanadas vs. beef patties, pum pum shorts, scamming and a longing for an authentic Dancehall party that also provides a safe space for queer Caribbeans and their kin. It is our mission to grow, congregate, educate and highlight the queer Caribbean community and our kin. With a focus on the arts, politics and culture RAGGA will be bringing you gallery shows, publications, media coverage and of course bashments. RAGGA NYC: all things cunt and Caribbean.

SHAWNA X : NETSCAPE

We often overlook the power of the internet and digital platforms. It takes us to our deepest imaginations, often replacing real life as we know it with the world of our own making. This place evokes many things—nostalgia, anger, lust—raw emotions we only experience openly in the comfort of our internet self. This digital space is an escape at the tip of our fingers, so easily accessible but almost impossible to leave. Netscape is Shawna X’s personal exploration into this realm—to the digital layers of old and new, deep and shallow: a sanctuary, a quicksand, a playhouse—a jungle.
